Donating a kidney when you and the recipient are not compatible
Ever since the Living Donor Paired Exchange (LDPE) registry and the Kidney Paired Donation (KPD) Program was created, a potential donor who, due to incompatibility, cannot donate a kidney to a loved one suffering from end-stage renal failure, can participate in an exchange with another donor-recipient pair whose recipient is compatible.
Since late 2010 when Quebec signed on to the registry, Quebecers awaiting a kidney have had access to a wider pool of potential living donors.
